This Newcastle band are aiming for the stars and doing so through the sheer power of their cosmic space rock.

Parastatic’s debut album ‘Lost Highway’ was released last year (on white vinyl, naturally) and was subsequently hit by a deluge of bouquets being lobbed its way including one from Mark Radcliffe who was heard to exclaim: “Prog on the Tyne!” And it’s easy to hear why people can fall under their spell as they make the kind of propulsive, joyous, trancelike music that bundles up the likes of Neu! The Orb and Spiritualized into one pulsating whole. Their latest single ‘GlaxoChem’ is a case in point; a cloud-scraping slab of motorik bliss which feels like the band have managed to bottle the essence of the sun coming up in the morning. They’re launching the single at The Cumberland Arms on 27 April and are supporting the brilliant Public Service Broadcasting at The Cluny on 10 May in a gig that we imagine will be all kinds of monumental.
