Food & Drink Reviews

littlegreen18.jpg Hey! Eat up your greens!

Little Green Social is a café (and bar and health food shop and social space) that has been turning a few heads since it opened in Newcastle a few months back, and with little reason: it’s absolutely brilliant.

I’m not a vegan, but I’m happy to admit that Little Green Social – which is very much a vegan establishment – has swiftly established itself as one of my very favourite places to eat since it opened earlier this year. The pizzas are just “Mwah!” (I like the ‘The Rainbow’, which is a delicious amalgamation of figs, walnuts, fennel, courgette ribbons and a beetroot base); and their maple and harissa aubergines (with pearl cous cous flecked with sumac and barberries) appear to have been beamed down from the heavens. They use locally sourced, organic produce, wherever possible and also have a wide range of craft ales and cocktails (mine’s a ‘Negroni’ – Bombay Sapphire, Martini Rosso, Campari) as well as coffees, smoothies and protein drinks. But the place is about so much more than food and drink. They also host music nights, art classes and children’s craft events, and have also held a night market. They also sell health food, ethical cosmetics, vitamins, household goods and raw foods, and they do an organic vegetable box order and collection service, too. And – praise be! – it’s also dog friendly. Little Green Social! Is there anything that you cannot do?
