Dancing in the dark
Over the last quarter of a century balletLORENT’s productions have hovered between ‘Spellbinding’ and ‘Blow yer rootin’ tootin’ socks off’. Their productions are always a real visual tour-de-force and have won rare praise from audiences and critics alike. Needless to say they’ve not been sitting back on their perfectly honed behinds and basking in all of the adulation. Indeed, they have put together a very special 25th anniversary show. Entitled ‘After Dark’ it will take the form of an intimate, cabaret-style evening of dance (and, hey, drinks – it is a celebration, after all).
It has been inspired by two of their most lauded productions ‘la nuit intime’ and ‘The Night Ball’ and will feature some new, original dances that have never been seen before.Liv Lorent: “We celebrate 25 years this year and continue to make a difference to people’s lives both through the world that is watched and the opportunities to dance that we create. I love that people remember so sharply a balletLORENT performance, even a decade later, and that it is often a beautiful and meaningful memory. We continue to tackle contemporary and challenging themes in our work, which is something I’m very proud of. As a company we remain inclusive, diverse and welcoming to anyone interested in taking part of experiencing theatre and dance.”
As part of the celebrations, a new exhibition of unseen photographs from balletLORENT’s archive will also be on display at Northern Stage from 27 September. Get to it!
