gatesheadcouncil18.jpg Time to get your Gateshead on…

What time is it in Gateshead this summer? What time isn’t it, more like. There’s a huge amount going on around Gateshead Quays over the next few months and here are just a few of July’s highlights.

Newcastle Pride takes place in July (20-22 July, fact fans) but before that all kicks into gear you should probably get yourself down to Baltic Square for some Inflatable Church of Love action (pictured). Organised by Curious, they know that love is open to everyone so bring your lover, best friend, dog or anyone else that you want to commit to for the rest of your life (or the rest of the afternoon). That will be set up on Saturday 7 and Sunday 8 July, 11am-5pm, and on the Saturday watch out for Sisters Jean and Morag who will be on a tea-pouring mission. Curious are also holding Visibly Drawn at Performance Square (Saturday 7 July, 1pm), a fully clothed life drawing session. Imagine! The GemArts Masala Festival is also launching from Performance Square on Saturday 14 July, 11am-3pm (see page 15 for more on this), and there will be more arty fun with the Thoughtful Huge Family Painting, also at Performance Square, on Sunday 29 July, 11am-3pm. During the Great Exhibition of the North, Gateshead Quays is looking very lively – particularly between Baltic Square, Performance Square and Hillgate Quay – so make sure you don’t miss out on this cultural bonanza.
