The Hoppings returns to Newcastle’s Town Moor from 22-30 June and you know what that means don’t you? Nine days of glorious, unbroken sunshine.

Of course, I’ve got plenty of things pencilled into my diary for the summer months (Great Exhibition of the North; watch England get knocked out of the World Cup off Panama) but at the top of my list – my No. 1 priority – is at least one visit to The Hoppings. I never miss. I love the atmosphere, I love the food (a toffee apple counts as one of my five-a-day) and I love the rides. And what rides! This year the Exciter is returning once again as is the Ice Jet - both of which are guaranteed to send your pulse racing – along with AirMax, SupaSpin, Extreme, Superbowl and all the rest, including perennial classics such as the dodgems, log flume and waltzer. And this year the first weekend will be accompanied by the Newcastle Military Show that, among other things, will feature music from the Fifth Fusiliers Band. So yes: while I am looking forward to seeing Stephenson’s Rocket at the Great Exhibition of the North I’m – whisper it – even more excited to jump on the ghost train once again.

The Hoppings, Friday 22 June-Saturday 30 June, Newcastle Town Moor, from 1pm weekdays and earlier at the weekend. On-site parking is available. hoppingsfunfairs.com
