vicolalive18.jpg Live! In a lane!

The Tyneside Cinema’s pavement café/cocktail bar Vicola are holding free outdoor gigs every Friday throughout the summer months taking in everything from funk to folk. Woo hoo!

Oh man! Plonk me on one of the outdoor tables outside of Vicola with something containing rum and I’m in heaven. And they’re fully intent on improving heaven this summer with this series of free gigs that cover every genre under our always shining sun.

In June alone, for instance, we can hear Ashleigh Lowes (who will be joined by jazzy Jamie Jingles on guitar for fun and an energetic take on classic covers – 1 June), Richard Sutton and David Williams (playing popular songs and forgotten gems from the 1960s to the present – 8 June), Patrick Kelly (hailing from Bangor, Northern Ireland, he has a truly unique take on stuff from everyone from Johnny Cash to Katy Perry, Outkast to Gorillaz – 15 June), Millie Eve Duo (performing jazz, soul, Motown, swing and pop and all with an acoustic twist – 22 June) and The Flyting (exciting new folk band steeped in the rich traditions of Scotland and Ireland - 29 June).

If that wasn’t enough to send you stumbling excitedly in their direction then you should note that they’re also bringing back Tapas Thursday featuring a constantly changing selection of fresh hot and cold tapas served from 5pm each, yep, Thursday – along with a wide selection of Spanish wines, home-made Sangria and cocktails. Full details from their website.

Live in the Lane, every Friday from 8pm, free. Vicolo, High Friar Lane, Newcastle. tynesidecinema.co.uk/food-and-drink/vicolo
