The world-renowned DJ Dave Haslam – who played over 450 times at the legendary Hacienda – is also a much-feted scribe, having written for the NME, The Guardian and The Times. His latest book is ‘Sonic Youth Slept On My Floor’ and his launch tour sees him heading to Cluny 2 in Newcastle.

Dave Haslam’s Life After Dark: A History of Nightclubs & Music Venuesremains your go-to book if you want to know about those strange and alluring worlds beyond the bouncers and velvet ropes, but for his latest tome he has built up a rich portrait of his life as seen through music, books and ideas, as well as some of the life-changing events that have impacted on him from the Yorkshire Ripper to the Manchester Arena terror attack. He recalls meeting some of the key movers and groovers of various scenes – including the likes of Tony Wilson, Nile Rodgers, Tracey Thorn and John Peel – and has conducted fresh interviews with Viv Albertine, Johnny Marr, Roisin Murphy and more. And yes, there was that time when Sonic Youth slept on his floor… He’ll be in conversation at The Cluny in June at an event which has been pulled together with the help of the ever wonderful Forum Books in Corbridge.

Dave Haslam, Friday 29 June, Cluny 2, Ouseburn, Newcastle, 7.30pm, £10 (admission + signed book £20). https://www.seetickets.com/tour/dave-haslam-sonic-youth-slept-on-my-floor
