hearthspring18.jpg Heads up for Horsley

The Summer Open Studios event at the Hearth Arts Centre in Horsley is one of the most glorious weekends of the year so get the 9thand 10th of June inked into your diary – pronto!

It’s always a pleasure to visit The Hearth Arts Centre at the best of times (I’m not saying their home-made cakes are the best in the north-east but they’re in the top one…) but their summer open studios are always extra special. All the resident artists’ studios will be open showing and selling prints, painting, jewellery, textile work, ceramics and more. I particularly love Cathy Duncan’s linocuts (pictured) that capture the people and places of Tynedale and Hadrian’s Wall.

Also in attendance will be jeweller Jill Stewart with new work (including some clocks), watercolour artist David Holliday (with a huge new painting of Newcastle’s High Level Bridge), and historical textiles demonstrator Ruth Hicken will be dyeing wool using traditional methods and plants. This year’s guest artists will include painter Walter Holmes, printmakers Carol Nunan and Adele Burdon, ceramicists Sue Dunne and Mary Chappelhow, pastels artist Fiona Carvell and more. Get to it!
