katiedorherty18.jpg Smiles don’t get sunnier than this

And I’d be smiling too if I could sing, write songs and play like Newcastle’s Katie Doherty, who, along with Shona Mooney and Dave Gray, will be lighting up the Lit & Phil this March.

Do you know that feeling you get when things just click? It’s not something I’ve experienced too often in my life (save for the time when my three remaining bingo numbers were called out consecutively) but I daresay there must have been a split second when Katie Doherty (on vocals and piano), Shona Mooney (on fiddle) and Dave Gray (on melodeon) all looked at each other and nodded. It would have been THE nod, the nod that said: “Woo hoo! We’re conjuring up music that is reaching the heights of the spine-tingling here!” The trio are all award-winning folk musicians in their own rights, and together they are a real knockout. And this should be an extra special gig in the lovely environs of the Lit & Phil, with the band showcasing songs from their forthcoming album, and support from Teesside duo Altitude Acoustic.
