jazzallday18.jpg Jazz? Let’s have an all-dayer!

As is now traditional, Jazz North East are starting the year with an all-dayer at the Lit & Phil. The focus this year? Luxembourg. Imagine!

Yep: we’ve had France, we’ve had the Netherlands, and now it’s Luxembourg’s turn with a gaggle of some of the top outfits from that country mixing in with the likes of Tyneside’s highly acclaimed Archipelago. Indeed it’s Archipelago who kick off the day at 2pm before we get entertained by the likes of Maxime Bender, David Fettmann, Jérôme Klein, Sascha Ley & Laurent Payfert.

The afternoon session is then wrapped up by Manu Codjida & Faye MacCalman + Pol Belardi’s Force. The evening session begins at 7pm with Jeff Herr’s Corporation (pictured) who will then be followed by Sascha Ley, Faye MacCalman, John Pope & Klein. The evening will be brought to a close with Jean-Yves Jung, John Pope, Jeff Herr and Maxime Bender’s Universal Sky.

For a nation with a population barely half that of Tyne & Wear, Luxembourg possesses a remarkable wealth of great jazz talent, from the rhythmic grooves of drummer Jeff Herr’s Corporation, via the witty interplay of vocalist Sascha Ley and bassist Laurent Payfert, to the exquisite harmonies, lyrical melodies and brilliant use of space from Pol Belardi’s Force. This one looks set to sizzle.
