There are three new exhibitions launching at Side Gallery in January including The Winners from Rafal Milch.

Award yourself a million bonus points AND the holiday jackpot if you correctly identified Natalia and Konan in this picture, who claimed the Belarusian Republican Youth Union prize for the couple most in love. Aaah! It’s part of an exhibition entitled The Winners in which Rafal Milach photographed the winners of national and local competitions supported and promoted by the Belarusian authorities. Milach – who has been shortlisted for the 2018 Deutsche Börse Photography Foundation Prize – commented: “I wanted it to be a kind of mirror that reflected the ideological state that is Belarus.” Also showing is Niels Ackermann’s Looking for Lenin, in which he has scoured former Soviet states in search of toppled statues (and their fates); and Harry Morrison’s Photographs of Tyneside and elsewhere, which includes stunning shots of Tyneside (in particular of the Tyne and Quayside) and Northumberland, taken between 1948 and 1956.
