fatfriend18.jpg How’s YOUR New Year diet going?

Kay Mellor’s TV show Fat Friends was a huge hit when it aired on ITV and now it’s been turned into a brand new musical which is coming to the Theatre Royal in January. Get set for a buffet of delights.

Who decreed that January was the month you started your diet. It’s cold, it’s gloomy, my Christmas tree is lying forlornly upside down in a bin and I need my Ben & Jerry’s Caramel Chew Chew, just to see my through. I also need a bit of Kay Mellor. Mellor has scored big TV hits with the likes of Band of Gold and In The Club, but Fat Friends must be her most fondly remembered show, and it’s now been turned into an uproarious stage production with original music by Lloyd Webber (not that one – Nick Lloyd Webber). It features all your fave characters as they are put through their Zumba paces at their local branch of Super Slimmer by the lovelorn Lauren, while Kelly fantasies about fitting into the wedding dress of her dreams. Full of warmth and humour the all star cast features the winner of BBC’s I’d Do Anything ,Jodie Prenger, X-Factor winner Sam Baily, Atomic Kitten’s Natasha Hamilton, Emmerdale’s Natalie Anderson and Coronation Street’s Kevin Kennedy (Curly, to you and me). Sod that diet and fill your boots.

Fat Friends, Tuesday 23-Saturday 27 January, Theatre Royal, Newcastle, 7.30pm (mats Wed & Thurs 2pm and Sat 2.30pm), from £19.50. theatreroyal.co.uk
