festnerd.jpg Full frontal Nerdity

The Festival of the Spoken Nerd have carved out a real niche for themselves when it comes to geeky, science-based comedy shows, and their latest – You Can’t Polish A Nerd – is coming to the Gala Theatre in Durham this November.

I never thought I’d live in a world where scientists would play sell-out arena tours (take several bows professor Brian Cox for knocking it out of the park in hangers big enough to house the Queen Mary). Still, Cox and his ilk have made science much hotter than no-marks like Einstein ever did (I caught the supposedly great German physicist’s 1938 comeback tour and, frankly, it was very light on costume changes). Of course, Cox cannot do the funny stuff, certainly not like the Festival of the Spoken Nerd can, who manage to combine the funny and the smart like no others. Featuring stand-up mathematician Matt Parker, TV experiments maestro Steve Mould and award-winning geek songstress Helen Arney, their shows somehow manage to wring big laughs out of zoology, multiple recursion and the fundamental theorem of calculus. Very clever, very funny and very much coming our way. Time to put some “eek!” into your geek.
