Indie legend Peter Hook (and his band The Light) are headlining a DFDS cruise to Amsterdam in November playing both New Order classics (on the way there) and Joy Division classics (on the way back). Talk about high-jinx on the high-seas.

I’m struggling to think of someone who has been in two bands that have been as influential as Joy Division and New Order (other than the other members of Joy Division and New Order). During the late 1970s and throughout the 1980s, both bands succeeded in shifting the parameters of popular music with Peter Hook’s unmistakable basslines at the forefront of their distinctive sound.

And for this special cruise to Amsterdam he’ll be playing both bands’ biggest hits – as well as a selection of fan favourites – with New Order stuff being belted out on the jaunt to Amsterdam with Joy Division classics being served up on the way back.

There will also be plenty of DJ action on board too with Newcastle’s legendary Stonelove and Bulletproof DJs, Aaron Mellor and Tallest Paul, celebrating the memory of Big Niall with an indie rock ‘n’ roll soundtrack turned up to 11.

Things get underway on Friday 17 November when you’ll set sail before arriving in Amsterdam the next morning. After spending the day among the canals, galleries and cafes (or whatever else takes your fancy), you’ll cast off again, arriving back in North Shields on Sunday 19 November.

All cabins are en suite and you’ll find a whole range of lovely restaurants and bars on board. Ahoy!

Peter Hook & the Light, set sails from North Shields Friday 17 November, 5pm, from £69. More info and booking: dfdsseaways.co.uk/mini-cruise-breaks/seasonal-themed/north-sea-sounds-peter-hook-and-the-light
