Food & Drink Reviews

I say “free” when I actually mean “nearly free” as the South Tyneside Restaurant Week looms rather pleasingly on the horizon once again.

The best meal I’ve eaten this year was during the summer months in South Shields at Colmans Fish and Chip restaurant on Ocean Road (that’s their food, pictured). Absolutely scrummy. And, pleased to report, they are just one of the eateries taking part in this year’s South Tyneside Restaurant Week (the fabulous Colmans Seafood Temple – right on the seafront – is also taking part). Of course, it’s not just fish and chip lovers who need to get 7-14 October inked into their diaries with a whole array of different restaurants taking part including Zeera (award-winning restaurant serving delectable Indian fare), Turkuisine (with, yep, Turkish cuisine) and Tuscano’s Italian. There will also be bistros, cafes and pubs getting involved, and – praise be! – Ghiaccio Ice Cream & Dessert Lounge are also involved once again for fans of the truly sweet stuff. Expect special two course set menus during the week and clean plates all round.
