Food & Drink Reviews
Greedy-guts coming to Berwick...
Food is massive this year. Everybody, or so it seems, is eating it, and those of us who love it, really love it, are chomping at the bit for this super festival which is celebrating its 10th anniversary in fine style.
The whole thing is kicking off with a grand opening on Friday 1 September inside their spacious beer marquee where local gem Electric Penelope will be regaling us all with her jazz/soul inflected pop while we get stuck into the best in local beer, ale, cider, wine, champagne, cocktails and gin.
The main event will then be running over the weekend with over 60 local food related stalls popping up on the cobbles of Berwick’s historic barracks. There will also be loads of quality street food to try – from freshly fired pizzas to gourmet burgers – and kids will love the storytelling and craft sessions as well as the ‘Kids Kitchen’ where they can don an apron and create their own dishes.
The weekend will also feature plenty of demos, special guests popping in to show-off their skills, and a host of bands keeping the music going throughout the weekend.
And if you’re hankering after some Lorna Robertson action then she will be dropping in for a pre-festival event on Saturday 26 August. This will include a Q&A with the chef before canapés (made from Lorna’s own recipes) and some bubbles (ie booze, not the ones that kids blow).Berwick Food & Beer Festival, opening night Friday 1 September from 6pm, then Saturday 2 & Sunday 3 September, 10am-5pm, £3, under 12s free. Beer Marquee open 12pm-midnight Saturday 2 September, 12-6pm Sunday 3 September (£4 entry on Fri/Sat evening for live music).
