macbeth17.jpg Macbeth, but not as you know it…

Classic songs, loony lab technicians, lashings of comedy and that’s before we even get round to the steampunk witches. Get set for some seriously silly Shakespeare coming to Newcastle in early September.

As a play Macbeth is gruesome, trades in paranormal activities and features morally repugnant characters out for what they can get. In the hands of independent theatre company Oddsocks, it’s also a madcap musical comedy set in a steampunk world of recycled industry with a soundtrack of classic songs. It’s also the first theatrical piece to be staged at the Clayshed space within Hoults Yard’s Maling Building. Oddsocks director, Andy Barrow whooped: “Macbeth is exciting and dramatic – full of vibrant characters and is a really great story to tell. We’re putting on a party and everyone is invited. It’s theatre that’s highly energised, full of life and features plenty of laughs. It’s Shakespeare, but not as you know it.” Sounds like it’s going to be a production full of sound and fury, signifying amazing times for all. (Note: a booze and sweetie bar will be available, which kind of fits just nicely.)

Macbeth, Saturday 2 September, Clayshed, Hoults Yard, Walker Road, Newcastle, 6.30pm, £7.88-£13.15. https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/musical-macbeth-at-hoults-yard-tickets-36002195536
