thereflex17.jpg Nile Rodgers likes this man

Chic’s Nile Rodgers likes this man because he breathes new life into soul, pop and disco classics with the kind of easy elan that gets dancefloors really thrumming. He is The Relex! (Not his real name.)

And it’s not just Nile Rodgers who is on board with The Reflex. Disclosure, Jazzy Jeff, Kid Creole and Dimitri from Paris all worship at his altar, as do remix pioneers such as John Morales, Greg Wilson, Danny Krivit and modern masters like the estimable Horse Meat Disco crew. His real name is Nicolas Laugier and this French-born, but London dwelling, mover and groover was in thrall to the art of the remix from a young age. He likes to go back to the original sounds on the master tapes (or stems) to get among those killer basslines where he can really juzz up classic sounds (think Michael Jackson’s Rock With You) with imaginative arrangements and whizz-bang sonics. Our verdict: Nile knows. Get with Nile.
