billdance17.jpg The world comes to Billingham

The world of dance, that is, as the Billingham Folklore Festival of World Dance hits the north-east once again for one of the most exuberant festivals you’ll find anywhere.

Where to start with this festival that is always chockfull of incredible performances? How about the world premiere of Peacock Lake, which is set to feature ice skating, contemporary dance, Kathak (classical Northern-Indian dance), world traditional dance, live music, and – get this! – a cast of over 200 performers from right across the world. This modern take on Tchaikovsky’s Swan Lake promises to be one of the cultural highlights of the year and will be performed at Billingham Forum Ice Arena on 19 & 20 August. And it’s just one of many highlights of 2017’s packed programme which will feature a whirligig of music, colour and diversity as some of the world’s greatest troupes arrive in the north-east from Chile, Hungary, New Zealand, Tahiti, South Africa and more with everything from classical to contemporary dance being covered. The festival will also include free lunchtime concerts, a children’s club, and international youth dance workshops. Check the website, below, for the full glorious programme.
