mikado45.jpg The Mikado comes to Tynemouth

The superb Tynemouth Gilbert  & Sullivan Society have a rare treat for us in June, which is – as the headline kind of hints at – The Mikado.

And the popular comic opera is coming to the Priory Theatre in June courtesy of the one of the best, and longest running, amateur theatre troupes in the UK, the Tynemouth Gilbert & Sullivan Society. Now you might not think that a musical comedy that deals with themes including death and cruelty would retain such enduring appeal, but The Mikado became the most frequently performed Savoy Opera, and has been translated into numerous languages. It is also one of the most frequently played musical theatre pieces in history winning over audiences with each new generation. The Tynemouth Gilbert & Sullivan society meanwhile are celebrating their 70th anniversary in 2017 and, as ever, they will be giving it their all and doing full justice to this evergreen work when it hits the Priory Theatre in June.

The Mikao, Tuesday 20-Saturday 24 June, The Priory Theatre, Tynemouth, 7.15pm (5.15pm Sat), £13 (£10 under 16s). ticketsource.co.uk/tynemouthgilbertandsullivan
