rodneysing17.jpg Some night from some bloke

Canadian artist Rodney Graham, whose exhibition is the current wow at BALTIC, is giving a rare live performance in BALTIC’s riverside venue in May. Looks like this one will be a real “Don’t Miss!”

Have you checked out the Rodney Graham retrospective at BALTIC yet, because if not, you really, really must (it runs until 11 June). The genre-mangling artist wears his avant-garde experimentalism lightly as he moves seamlessly through film and photographic work in this show, which has really been thumped on the back by critics including the Guardian’s Adrian Searle who give it a well-deserved five-star review. His work brims with references from art history, films and literature and with considerable humour, wit and intelligence he continues to pose the question: what does it mean to consider yourself an artist today. What indeed, as, for him, being an artist today also includes being something of a singer/songwriter and we’re going to be blessed with one of his rare live performances when he plays BALTIC’s superb Riverside venue which affords stunning views across the Tyne. Should be some night from some bloke.
