You could mooch around the cobbles of Manchester for years on end and still not unearth a better Morrissey/Smiths tribute act than Viva Morrissey, and they’re all set to play The Cluny in April.

I don’t think that we’re treading on anyone’s toes by declaring loud and clear that Viva Morrissey are THE world’s greatest Morrissey tribute act. And after a five-year hiatus they’ve reformed for a series of gigs, one of which will see their caravan of fun rock up in Newcastle.

There hasn’t been much in the way of Morrissey output over those past five years (I doubt Viva Morrissey will be doing any readings from his novel), but they will be dipping into that extraordinary back-catalogue which takes in four decades of anthems from both The Smiths and Mozzer’s solo work.

This Charming Man, Everyday is Like Sunday, How Soon Is Now?, The Last of the Gang, Heaven Knows I’m Miserable Now, You’re The One For Me Fatty, William It Was Really Nothing, Suedehead… which one’s your favourite? Should be a great gig as on support duties are the very excellent local band, Meiosis.

Viva Morrissey + Meiosis, Saturday 15 April, The Cluny, Ouseburn, Newcastle, 7.30pm, £11. Tickets: musicbymeiosis.com
