Fancy nabbing a couple of tickets to see one of the highlights of this year’s Gateshead International Jazz Festival? I’m talking the double-bill of GoGo Penguin and Shobaleader One…

Hailing from Manchester, acoustic-electronica trio GoGo Penguin are pianist Chris Illingworth, bassist Nick Blacka and drummer Rob Turner. Drawing on influences from Brian Eno and John Cage, to Massive Attack and Aphex Twin they create a brave new sound all their own. Defined by skittering break-beats, powerful sub-bass, telepathic interplay and a penchant for anthemic melody they create an emotionally rich palate for the listener that has seen them hailed as the most exciting new band to emerge from the UK in years.

Squarepusher returns with a brand new project, Shobaleader One (pictured). Featuring Squarepusher on bass, Strobe Nazard on keys, Arg Nution on guitar, and Company Laser on drums, Shobaleader One will deliver choice tunes from the Squarepusher catalogue featuring classics from albums like Hard Normal Daddy and Music Is Rotted One Note. This is an experience no Squarepusher devotee or adventurous music fan should miss.

WIN: If you’d like a couple of tickets for this spectacular gig simply tell us the title of the GoGo Penguin album that was nominated for a Mercury Prize. Email your answer to info@thecrackmagazine.com (putting “GoGo Penguin comp” in the subject matter).
