North Shields’ superb new cultural arts venue and café/bar, The Exchange, has a plethora of gigs and other events coming up over the next month or so, including a very sharp looking March of the Mods night.

Tyneside-based Who tribute band The Whodlums have been performing to packed houses for around a decade now, earning rave reviews in the process as they run through the full back catalogue of one of the great British bands, from the electric crackle of early singles such as My Generation and Substitute to later classics including Who Are You and You Better You Bet. And they’re just one of the bands playing this March of the Mods event (Saturday 11 March, £10) which is raising money for the Teenage Cancer Trust. Other acts playing include Mark Simpson, The Citadels and Circuit 68.

The Exchange itself was given charitable status last year and hosts an eclectic mix of events including theatre performances, comedy, music, film festivals and art exhibitions. In February look out for At The Jazz Band Ball (featuring Rendezvous Jazz and the Rae Brothers, Saturday 25 February, £10/£8.50), then into March there is comedy with Josh Daniels, Fin Healy and Sam Healy (Tuesday 7 March, £10); and The Original Songbook Weekend festival will see forty original music acts playing (7-10 April) over three stages.
