Cocktails. Gigs. Hoochie. Coochie.
Nothing quite beats that first cocktail after work on a Friday night (the fifth is always a favourite of mine, too) and Hoochie Coochie’s cocktail list is definitely one worth skipping daintly through. It’s open from 3pm each Friday, with free entry, although, more often than not, I stay well into the night when they stick some corking gigs on. March’s line-up includes Gaby Young & Other Animals (Friday 8 March, £5) and Joe Driscoll & Sekou Kouyate (Friday 15 March, £5) but I’m particularly looking forward to Hannah Williams & The Tastemakers (Friday 22 March, £5 – pictured). This super-soulful-funky-nine-(NINE!)-piece have became the go-to band for hip-hop legends such as Afrika Bambaataa & The Sugar Hill Gang and I can’t wait to see them kick the funk out of the place. After cocktail hour(s), naturally.
