Cullercoats Bike & Kayak are not just your go-to outfit for paddling action, because, as their name rather hints at, they’ve got peddling covered, too.

We’ve got a lot to be proud of here in the north-east. From the large number of outlets scattered throughout the region going by the name of Hollywood Nails (or something similar), to our commitment to pastry based snacks, we’ve got the lot. But surely one of our proudest boasts is that our coastline is second to none. And one of the funky enterprises really bringing good times to our shores is Cullercoats Bike & Kayak.

Principally they offer cycle & kayak hire (as well as repairs and servicing) but they’re so much more than that. For as well as hiring equipment that’s straight out of the top drawer (we’re talking hybrid bikes from GT and beautiful heritage bikes from Pashley; and sit-on-top kayaks which are great fun in the surf and super stable on the open sea), they also offer guided tours.

On bike these include: Local Food Heroes (explore the many independent and artisan food stores down the coast); Seaside Explorer (take in landmarks, learn a little local history and spot some coastal wildlife); and Foodies’ Paradise (a three-course, three village tour).

Kayak tours include: Tyne Bridge & Quayside (paddle beneath the Tyne Bridge and more!); Sunrise Paddles (watch the sunrise over Cullercoats & Tynemouth followed by breakfast in The Snug); Introduction to Kayaking (taster sessions); Coastal Explorer (take in the best of the coast including caves, coves and beaches); and St Mary’s Picnic & Paddle (explore the beautiful St. Mary’s Island and stop for a picnic lunch).

All tours are guided by local, experienced guides and if you have your own bike or kayak that’s fine too (and you’ll pay a cheaper price for the session). Cullercoats Bike & Kayak itself is a fabulous place to relax and chat to like-minded people as it houses The Snug, a beautiful little hideaway where you can grab a coffee and bite to eat giving you all the fuel you’re going to need for your peddling or paddling action.
