underthebridge.jpg Toast some new furniture

This 1960s drinks cabinet is the type of delectable item available from homeless charity, Under The Bridge.

This lovely gin cabinet was destined for landfill before it was rescued by Under The Bridge. The charity has two stores in Newcastle: one on the corner of Bolingbroke Street and Heaton Park Road (which stocks restored items); and a warehouse, on Wilfred Street behind Morrison’s petrol station, which sells second hand furniture, at a reduced rate, which require only minor work (a wax or varnish or maybe a coat of paint). The charity relies on donations of furniture from the public and offers a free collection service for wooden items. Under The Bridge provides a service to over 100 homeless men and women in the region, including therapeutic occupation for 14 people at the workshop. If you have any items you no longer want and would like to donate, then drop then a line; or, if you fancy getting hold of some furniture – like this cabinet - that has been rescued and restored, then pop along to their stores and see what goodies await you…
