It’s a right old laugh that Twitter isn’t it? One minute you’re informing the world that you’re popping around the local corner shop for a badly needed packet of Monster Munch, and the next you’re being “followed” by Beverly Knight and Mica Paris and having your idol, Gabrielle re-tweeting your version of her song ‘Give Me A Little More Time’. Such is the life of Sam Dickinson, a Newcastle lad whose supremely soulful ways have seen him twitching the antennae of those who believe that pop music should be delivered from the heart. He originally caught the eye at Northern Pride 2009 with a barnstorming performance which led on to him playing festivals across the north alongside acts such as Basshunter and Kelis. He’s currently working on his debut album which is being produced by Stu Emerson (who has worked with big hitters such as Meat Loaf and Bonnie Tyler) and he’s hitting the road again this month on his continuing Summer Of Soul tour with gigs at The Forum in Darlington (Sunday August 26), Hoochie Coochie in Newcastle (Monday August 27) and The Georgian Theatre in Stockton (Friday September 7). Tickets are four quid each and more information on these gigs, and plenty of other Sam Dickinson shaped goodies, can by sought from his website. DP
