South London glitch pop pioneers The Fish Police are one of the most lauded bands on the learning disability music scene and they’re bringing their electronica to Pop Recs Ltd in Sunderland this April.

Hang on? The learning disability music scene? Yup – it’s out there, very much so, with an underground network of musicians and bands producing some incredible work. Raising the profile of these artists is Constant Flux the organisation staging this latest tour featuring The Fish Police and support. The band are straight out of the leftfield, but with an undoubted pop feel, and reference everyone from Kraftwerk to MF Doom. They’ll be gigging right across the UK with other bands from both the learning disabled and DIY alternative scene including Fair Ohs, Trash Kit, Ultimate Thunder and Daniel Wakeford. These integrated events, where learning disabled and non-learning disabled bands and audiences come together, are a unique way of breaking down the barriers of social isolation faced by many with a learning disability (and thrillingly exciting, to boot).

Fish Police + support, Monday 7 April, Pop Recs Ltd, Fawcett Street, Sunderland, 7.30pm, £3 (carers free). constantflux.co.uk; poprecsltd.com
