bernice McDonald
The Brighton via Jesmond artist is currently causing quite a stir on the south coast. Born into a family of musicians, Bernice has always been around professional performers as her parents met and played in The Northern Sinfonia Orchestra. The Newcastle born artist also sang jazz with her father’s trio, as well as The Swing Bridge Singers choir in Newcastle and performed on The Ant

and Dec Christmas Show with Aled Jones…She also sang backing vocals with Ozzy and Kelly Osborne on the nationally televised ‘Olympic Torch Concert’ and has featured in a variety of other television and radio performances showcasing her sound. She has been compared to Joni Mitchell and Laura Nyro and it looks like she has an exciting future ahead of her. She is currently backed by the Bernice McDonald Band and her debut album ‘Garden’ is out now. The sound combines her own upbeat, poppy lyrics with a folk-tinged backing and she stands out with her distinctive vocals and folky edge. Watch out for Bernice when she plays in her native north-east soon. IT
