Open Mon-Sat 9am-8pm, Sun 11am-5pm This a good place to go for washing machines, sofas and other bulky buys. It has various clothing stores, so at least you can go shopping while Dad decides whether to buy the white fridge or the silver fridge. There is also a cinema, a casino, plenty of restaurants and a bowling alley. Plenty of memories to be made.
The Art Shop And Kemble Gallery
This quaint multi-levelled shop stocks original paintings and prints downstairs as well as a wide variety of artists’ materials up above. Also offers a reasonably-priced picture framing service.
The Back Page
TThe only shop of its kind in the north-east, The Back Page specialises in sports books (all sports catered for) and also stock a huge range of sporting memorabilia, including autographs, dvds, fanzines, football programmes etc. A veritable treasure trove.
The Bridges Shopping Centre
The Bridges shopping centre has now doubled in size and is home to over 100 top name stores including Debenhams, Topshop, H&M, HMV, Triple S, River Island, Bank, Disney, Pandora, La Senza, Blue Inc, JD Sport and loads more. It’s a shoppers’ paradise. Open daily 9am-5.30pm, Sun 11am- 5pm.
The Cleveland Centre
Open Mon-Sat 9am-5.30pm, Sun 10.30am-4.30pm. The Mall is home to Topshop, H&M, HMV, Boots and many more besides - all the big names under one big roof. For a while they called this place The Mall, but nobody liked that much, so last year it changed back to the Cleveland Centre. What a palava.
The Cornmill Centre

Open Mon-Sat 9am-5.30pm, Sun 10.30am-4.30pm. This has all the high street favourites boasting 50 shops including Waterstones, Dorothy Perkins and Primark. It’s a grand place tofind shelter when it’s raining, but be prepared to lose a buck or two.

As their name hints at, this place is very bike friendly and it has a great range of drinks, snacks and yummy cakes, as well as a tasty range of lunchtime meals seven days a week. They also stock a fabulous array of local beers, too (don’t try a wheelie after necking some of this stuff…).
The Gates Shopping Centre
Representing many of the high street chains, The Gates also houses a few specialist shops selling luxury items. While the closure of anchor store Waitrose a couple of years ago was a shame, there’s still just about something for everyone.

Jewellery, frames, posters, clothes and accessories, many with a Celtic bent. Quite possibly the finest ladies’ accessories shop in Durham.
